"High Life" directed by Claire Denis to be filmed in Poland

14 June 2016

This Autumn, "High Life" – the first English production of French director and receiver of a Palme d'Or, Claire Denis ("Beau Travail", "Trouble Every Day", "Bastards") – will be filmed in Poland.

The script was written by Dennis herself together with Jean–Paul Fargeau and Geoff Cox in collaboration with Zadie Smith and Nick Laird.

The film will feature Robert Pattinson ("Twilight", "Cosmopolis"), Oscar-winning Patricia Arquette ("Boyhood"), Mia Goth ("Nyphomaniac") and Lars Eidinger. The cinematographer is Agnes Godard ("The Dreamlife of Angels"); Stuart Stamples and British band Tindersticks will compose the score.

The story takes place in space, outside the solar system, where the protagonist and his daughter live in complete isolation. Currently, the level of Polish filmmakers' involvement in the project is discussed. The filming will take place partly in Poland; Film Commission Poland assists with location scouting.

"High Life" will be co-produced by four countries: France (Alcatraz Films, awarded with Palme d'Or for "Blue Is the Warmest Colour" directed by Abdellatif Kechiche), Germany (Pandora Film, among others "Only Lovers Left Alive" dir. Jim Jarmush), the United Kingdom (Apocalypse Films, among others "Miss Julie" by Liv Ullmann) and Poland (Madants Sp. z o.o. among others "Park" dir. Sofia Exarchou, "Foam at the Mouth" by Janis Nords, in collaboration with Match & Spark Who Will Write Our History).

The film has received funding from the Polish Film Institute.
