"18 - Clash of Futures" portrays the dramatic interwar period. Examining private journals, letters and memoirs, it follows exceptional men, women and children from France, Germany, Italy, the UK, Austria, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, and Russia. The thematic axis of the narration is the question how and why, during the period of only 21 years, the minds of millions of Europeans change so much that dictatorship, repressions of minorities and even a new war became a reality.
One of the main characters is Pola Negri, played by Michalina Olszańska ("I, Olga Hepnarova", "The Lure"). She is accompanied by Małgorzata Zajączkowska ("Walpurgis Night"), who portrayed Pola’s mother, Eleonora. Piotr Bartuszek ("United States of Love", "Marie Curie") was responsible for Polish casting; the Polish producer is Zuzanna Król ("Communion", "Arabic Secret") from Wajda Studio, which so far produced over 100 documentary and feature films, including 2015 Oscar nominee "Joanna".
The docudrama is a Germany-France-Luxembourg-Vietnam co-production, directed by Jan Peter and Frederic Goupil, who together with Camila Algren ("The Bridge") also wrote the script. The TV series is produced by LOOKS Film and Gunnar Dedio, who in 2014 produced "14 - Diaries of the Great War", a TV mini-series based on a similar concept, whose action takes place in 1914-1918. "Diaries of the Great War" was distributed in 26 countries among others Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands and the UK, and had 52 million viewers.
"18 – Clash of Futures" will have 8 episodes (52’); the production budget is 9 million euro. The shooting took place in Luxembourg, France, Belgium and Germany.
The series will be broadcast in Poland in autumn 2018 by TVP. Wajda Studio was responsible for acquiring the broadcaster.
